THROUGH TRUST AND COMMITMENT

Pathways to Stability

At Stepping Stones NW LLC, our work is guided by the Pathways to Stability Framework—a trauma-informed program model designed to help youth build safety, develop essential life skills, strengthen relationships, and establish meaningful connections within their communities.

Many youth entering residential care have experienced trauma, disrupted placements, or instability that can make it difficult to trust others or feel a sense of belonging. At Stepping Stones NW, we believe that healing and growth happen when young people are surrounded by consistent support, caring adults, and opportunities to build confidence and independence.

Through our Pathways to Stability Framework, youth are supported not only through structured programming but also through a network of relationships and community connections that encourage growth, resilience, and long-term stability. Each pathway works together to help youth build the skills, relationships, and support systems needed to move forward with confidence.

The Pathways to Stability Framework focuses on four core areas of development:

Stability grows where safety, connection, and opportunity meet.

Healing begins where young people feel safe, seen, and supported.

·

Every young person deserves a place to feel safe, valued, and supported

Pathways

  • Safety, Health & Emotional Well-being

A foundation of safety is essential for healing and growth. Our program provides a structured, supportive environment where youth feel physically safe, emotionally supported, and respected.

Staff utilize trauma-informed practices to help youth develop emotional regulation skills, healthy coping strategies, and routines that promote overall well-being.

    This focus includes:

    • Trauma-informed care and behavioral support
    • Emotional regulation and coping skill development
    • Access to mental and behavioral health services
    • Healthy routines including sleep, nutrition, and physical activity
    • Crisis prevention and supportive intervention strategies

By prioritizing physical and emotional safety, youth are able to begin building trust, stability, and confidence.

  • Life Skills & Personal Responsibility

Developing life skills is critical to helping youth prepare for adulthood and independence. Through daily programming and individualized support, youth learn practical skills that strengthen self-confidence and responsibility.

    Skill development may include:

    • Daily living and household responsibilities
    • Financial literacy and budgeting
    • Time management and organization
    • Goal setting and decision-making
    • Employment readiness and career exploration
    • Self-advocacy and personal responsibility

These experiences help youth develop the skills needed to successfully navigate adulthood and independent living.

  • Education & Personal Achievement

Education and personal growth play a critical role in long-term success. Our program works closely with schools, educators, and support staff to help youth stay engaged in their education and achieve their goals.

    Support may include:

    • School engagement and academic support
    • Homework assistance and tutoring
    • Coordination with teachers and school staff
    • Support with IEP and 504 plans
    • Credit recovery and graduation planning
    • Exploration of career and vocational pathways

We encourage youth to discover their strengths and develop confidence in their abilities.

  • Relationships, Family & Community Connection

Strong relationships and a sense of belonging are essential for long-term stability. Whenever possible and appropriate, we work to strengthen connections between youth, their families, and other supportive adults.

Our program encourages youth to build healthy relationships and engage positively with their communities through:

    • Family engagement and connection when appropriate
    • Building relationships with supportive adults and mentors
    • Participation in recreational and group activities
    • Volunteer and community service opportunities
    • Cultural and identity exploration
    • Positive peer engagement and teamwork

These experiences help youth develop supportive networks that promote lasting stability and a strong sense of belonging.
